Like many tattoo artists, Kat has countless tattoos. Growing up in Los Angles in the 1990’s and having a Latino background, it is unsurprising that many of Kat Von D ‘s tattoos-both the ink she wears and the tattoo art she creates in the shop -draw heavily on the Chicano tattoo tradition. Known for clean black and gray work with an emphasis on smooth shading and striking portraits, Kat takes this classic style and puts her own spin on it. Kat Von D‘s Own Tattoos and High Voltage Tattoo Work She also features on numerous covers of tattoo industry bible Inked Magazine. In 2007 Kat set the Guinness World Record for the most tattoo applied in 24 hours-400-cementing her place in the world of tattoo fame. After two seasons Kat left Miami due to creative differences and returned to her home of Los Angeles where she eventually landed her own tattoo show, La Ink. The nation got their first real look at Kat as a reality star on the TLC series Miami Ink when Von D joined the crew, filling in for another injured artist. An Early Startīorn in Mexico but moving to Los Angeles with her family at four years old, Kat began came to ink at an early age, getting her first tattoo at age 14 and quitting school two years later to pursue her career as a tattoo artist. Cutting her teeth tattooing in LA and Hollywood, Von D was influenced by her Latino heritage and punk rock, finding connections in these cultural movements with deep roots in Southern California. Kat Von D‘s career outside tattooing includes fame as a television personality, authoring several books, singing on a number of rock and roll tracks and launching a successful –and controversial- makeup line. A savvy entrepreneur and skilled tattoo artist, Kat Von D continues to blaze a trail for powerful and unapologetic women in the industry. I hope Kat Von D releases another mini MetalMatte palette in the near future.A post shared by ? on at 10:28am PDT I really enjoy this palette, the shades are so vibrant and fun to play with. So that was it – the Kat Von D MetalMatte palette in swatches. The shadows went on chalky, patchy and lost pigmentation over primer. The matte shadows swatched very poorly over primer. The matte shadows swatched and applied very well over bare skin. The other four matte shadows blend out well and have good pigmentation. Velvet is dry, chalky and difficult to build up. The only matte in this palette that has given me issues is Velvet. The matte shadows in this palette are good quality but they are drier in texture. The mattes in this palette swatch and apply true to colour in the pan. (Evidently, I accidentally swatched Doce twice over primer – that’s why there’s 6 shades) There wasn’t a dramatic difference in how the shades laid down over bare skin or primer. Though, they are definitely pigmented enough on their own without primer. The shimmer shadows applied slightly better over primer. Shadow applied evenly to my bare skin and last for 6+ before fading. I usually always wear an eyeshadow primer but these shadow are pigmented enough that I don’t need one. All of the shimmer shadows are intensely pigmented. All 5 shimmer shadows have a soft, silky texture. The shimmer shadows in the mini MetalMatte palette are very smooth and buttery. The original MetalMatte was full of shades I wouldn’t get use out of but the mini version is packed with wearable, wonderful shadows I can use everyday.Īll five shimmer shadows swatch and apply to the eyelid true to the colour in the pan. I was pumped when I saw she was releasing a smaller version last year. The Kat Von D Mini MetalMatte palette is on sale for 50% off at Sephora, (grab a good deal while you still can)! Unfortunately, I missed out on the original MetalMatte palette Kat Von D released a few years back. So here goes nothing – my first swatch gallery post. The shadows are stunning so I thought it would be a good palette to use in my first swatch post. The MetalMatte mini has been in my collection since early last year. I’ve been playing with the idea of creating a Swatch Gallery on my blog.
